HALF DAY PUTRAJAYA AND HERITAGE PARK:

Rub shoulders with movers and shakers in Malaysia’s corridors of power with this half-day tour of the Putrajaya government district. Built over six years at the turn of the millennium, it stands as a testament to the country’s giant social and economic advances. Imaginatively landscaped around a massive lake, this is the city of the future today.

Putrajaya is named after Malaysia’s first prime minister, Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj. It was planned to the minutest detail as an intelligent garden city redolent with lush greenery and water, encompassing 13 gardens and parks. There is also the Putrajaya Wetland, with wetland plants from more than 50 local species.

There are a number of places to visit including the Agricultural Heritage Park, where you can see a demonstration of rubber tapping, the Perdana Putra prime minister’s complex and the ‘floating’, 15,000-capacity Putra Mosque. Cross the Putra Bridge over the Putrajaya Lake and see Putra Square, one of the ‘stars’ of the city. See also Seri Perdana, the official prime minister’s residence.

ABORIGINE SETTLEMENT AND ELEPHANT SANCTUARY:

The journey takes approximately 1 hour 45 minutes. Our first stop is the Aborigin Settlement. Kuala Gandah Elephant conservation was established in 1989 by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks. The centre is a base for the Elephant Relocation team, which began the elephant translocation programme in 1974. The only one of its kind in Malaysia , the team is dedicated to locating, subduing and then translocating problem elephants from areas where their habitats are constantly being encroached by plantations and to other suitable habitats throughout the Peninsular such as Taman Negara. Over the past 25 years the centre has helped prevent the further declined of the elephant population by relocating more than 300 wild elephants.
